Thanks to Nik Baatz, whom I work with at Brands Hatch, I had the opportunity to test a Porsche Boxster race car – the same spec of car that Preptech UK are currently building for me, for some 2018 plans.
The 2018 plan is to enter my Boxster into Britcar, or into the Porsche Club Championship, depending on where the car seems most competitive – we shall see!
I got a lot of time in the car to get a feel for the Boxster (and get used to rear wheel drive machinery!), and thankfully the day stayed dry for most of the duration, allowing me to really push and get some quick lap times in. By the end of the day we were just 0.3 seconds slower than the pole time for the BRSCC Boxster Championship when they last raced at Brands. Not bad for old tyres and a Boxster that hadn’t been raced for a few years!
The plan for next year is to get familiar with rear wheel drive, something which I haven’t raced before. I feel like I know how to pedal a front wheel drive car quickly, now I’d like to learn the same with rear wheel drive and improve myself as a driver to be quick in both drivetrains.
